Tell us a little bit about yourself…..

Pragya – We are sisters and we have been singing together since our childhood. Our grandfather initiated us into music and our parents have been instrumental in helping us sculpt our passion into our profession. We hail from Hyderabad and eventually moved to Mumbai to learn and pursue music further. We have had the fortune to tour the world, performing together and collaborating with some fantastic artists. We have been on music shows on Tv, Sung for labels like Times music, Sony BMG, Venus, Aditya music and been a part of some big banner films and web series. Our base is Indian classical music but our influences have been varied and that comes across in our music. In our performance set, we pack in some of the choicest melodies from Bollywood, old & new, alongside a wide spectrum of genres ranging from Sufi, Ghazals, Folk & Qawalli, presenting them in our own individualistic style. Our strength lies in our inherent synchrony in music and that attribute propelled us to form Parindey and take it to the world.

Since what age have you been singing?
Chhavi- We started pretty early on. Pragya was 7 and I was 5.

Which singer/songwriter has been the greatest influence on you?
Chhavi – We have grown up listening to Lata ji, Asha ji, and our mentor and guru Pandit Jasraj ji. We have devoured their music and at any given point we had one of their cassette’s playing at home. Their voices were our staple consumption. Our favorite composers of all time have been Madan Mohan, S.d Burman & R.d Burman & A.R Rahman, Amit Trivedi have gotten added to our playlists. From the west, we really admire the works of legends like Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Barbara Streisand, Herbie Hancock, John Mayer, Norah Jones, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande to name a few.

What is your favorite gear when you compose music?
Pragya- Voice is our basic instrument, so we usually sing and compose with some accompaniment of the keys and later on produce our own songs.

What are some challenges you face as a singer/songwriter?
Chhavi- The biggest challenge is to deliver a good song, which entails, meaningful lyrics, a good melody, and arrangements that are sonically and musically rich.
For our concerts as well, we plan and write our arrangements and rehearse our set extensively with the band because we like to give Bollywood numbers and nonfilm genres like Sufi, ghazals, Folk, our own interpretation. To be to creatively satisfied and entertain the audiences at par, is the biggest challenge.

Share your best moment in life when you felt like you were on cloud nine!
Pragya- That is a tough question but in the recent past it has got to be our performance in Hangzhou, China last year.

We were invited by a leading T.V channel of China on their music show called Born U5 as International guest artist’s to perform on their show. It was an absolute honor to represent India internationally on such a big platform. The highlight of our performance was when from a Hindi Bollywood song we broke into a Mandarin song and the audience went ballistic. The response was overwhelming and that moment will be etched in our hearts forever.

What do you do in your free time? What is a regular day look like for you?
Chhavi- We like to watch a good film or a series in our free time, listen to music of course or read a book.
A regular day starts with some Riyaz, and then we get onto working on songs which could entail, writing, composing, producing or rehearsing for a gig if we have something lined up. It is pretty much centered around music and we wouldn’t want it any other way.

What is the plan for the next five years? Where do you see yourself? What is an ultimate dream goal for you?
Chhavi- We wish to see Parindey become one of the finest Bolly cum non-film music show entity, both juxtaposed interestingly together for it to be worthy musically, and equally entertaining for diverse audiences

Few words for your fans
Pragya- We would like to tell them, that we are immensely grateful for their support and will always try our best to bring to them good music from time to time. As artists, it gives us enormous satisfaction when our fans and audiences like and enjoy our songs. So please keep supporting and rooting for us. A heartfelt thank you to each one of you.
