Diljit Dosanjh starrer Soorma is a biopic about the famous ex-hockey Indian captain Sandeep Singh. It is a luminary story of the Hockey icon, Sandeep Singh who re-established himself in the game after an accident changed his life.
Today, group interviews with Diljit Dosanjh and Sandeep Singh were held.
When a journalist asked Diljit why he was reluctant to do this biopic in the beginning. He was also asked what convinced him to do it finally.
To this the actor said:
“Story badi kamaal ki thi. Aisi story maine kabhi suni nahi thi. Story ki wajah se maine film ki. Ekdum alag kahaani thi. Ki ek bande ko goli lagi phir who parallelize hogaya aur phir bhi usne comeback kiya. Hum generally kaise story main masala daalte hai, yeh masala movie hi thi jo banni chahiye thi. Mujhe hichkichaht Hockey ke wajah se tha kyunki maine kabhi koi sport khela nahi. Log jab nakli guitar bajate hai tab mujhe pata chalta hai. Bahot bura lagta hai, toh uski hichkichaht thi.”
(Story was very nice. I had not heard about such kind of a story ever. I said yes to the film because of the story. It was something unique, about a hockey player who got shot and was parallelized but made a good and unbelievable comeback. In our movie how we add masaledaar concepts, this story had the similar kind of masala in it which had to be made. I was hesitant only because I had to play hockey because I am not a sportsperson. It hurts to see people playing fake guitar or piano. I feared looking fake.)
When asked him the film’s music and his association with it, the actor said:
“Music me mera koi association nahi hai. Kisi bhi Hindi film me koi bhi gaana maine nahi banaya aur na hi maine kisi ko kaha ki mujhse gaana gava lo. Kyunki mera apna hi music hai, gaana hai, stage shows hai toh main kisi ko kehta nahi. Mujhe bhook nahi hai uss cheez ki yaha Bollywood mein. Luckily mujhe Gulzar saab ke lyrics mein gaane ko mila lekin who gaana already bana hua tha, toh who bana banaya hua gaana hi mere paas aaya tha. Kuch kuch ek do seen jo maine dub kiye who aap dekhna.”
(I have nothing to do with the film’s music. I have never created any music for any Bollywood film nor have I told anyone to let me sing. I have my own music style, stage shows and songs, so I don’t tell anyone to give me an opportunity. I don’t have a hunger of doing music in Bollywood films. I was lucky enough to get a chance to croon Gulzar Saab’s lyrics but that song was already been created. I have dubbed few scnes, watch out for them.)
Produced by Sony Pictures Network Productions, Chitrangda Singh, and Deepak Singh, the project will certainly be a successful endeavor. It is slated to release on 13th July 2018.
