Rohit Shetty has two famous franchises under his belt – one is ‘Singham’ starring Ajay Devgn, and the other is ‘Golmaal’ with Ajay and others. Well, ‘Singham’ might just take its own sweet time to come up, but the wait for ‘Golmaal’ is done. ‘Golmaal Again’ releases today. Rohit Shetty in an interview with UrbanAsian, revealed some unknown details about ‘Golmaal’, got shy when asked if he wants to be an actor and spilled who his favourite director is.
Here are some excerpts from the interview:
How was it getting back to scripting?
When we made ‘Golmaal 3’, we tried to crack the horror element, but it didn’t work out then. Then we made ‘Singham’, ‘Chennai Express’, and when we were working on ‘Singham Returns’, then we cracked the story. We knew that when we make ‘Golmaal’ next it will be horror comedy but we couldn’t crack the script then it happened and we’re very happy because it’s time for ‘Golmaal Again’.
How do you balance? People expect a lot of things from ‘Golmaal’, and then you have to bring something new…
That’s the thing. People have loved 2-3 parts of ‘Singham’, so you can’t take them for granted. All you can do is try something new. ‘Golmaal’ is getting a response because the promos are being loved. So it would have got a response, but not on this level. There is a horror element, because what next for the audience? You can’t just cheat them by making anything. One of my writers said that we could turn ‘Bol Bachchan’ too, but I felt it wouldn’t turn out that well, it would be cheating.
Are there any plans for ‘Golmaal 5’?
Even I read in the papers that I am making ‘Golmaal 5’, but if this works, then definitely expect that to be true. I am satisfied with the movie, which happened with ‘Golmaal 3’ and ‘Chennai Express’.
Is there a special reason ‘Golmaal’ or any of your other films have released during Diwali?
No. I just think it’s an entertaining film and happy, big films need a big release. Everything was falling in place. We had started the film on the right time and had decided prior that it will come on Diwali.
Do you think of acting?
I’m in a happy space for now.
Is there a director you’re scared of?
Not really, but I respect Raju Hirani.
