‘Dobaara’, starring Huma Qureshi, Saqib Saleem, Adil Hussain and Lisa Ray in lead roles, has often been labeled as a remake of the horror film ‘Oculus’. However, film director Mike Flanagan has something else to say.
In a recent candid chat, Mike said,
“Prawaal (Raman, director) did an amazing job of really fleshing out this idea of seduction. What was really a very small part of ‘Oculus’, is his idea. It isn’t a remake, in the sense that so many movies are kind of taken from one culture/marketplace and just redone/repackaged. This to me is a very different kind of relationship, because it truly is taking a story and running it through someone else’s vision. This isn’t a shot-to-shot recreation. This isn’t just retelling a story that’s been told. It really is a new interpretation of the story. What I think is unique about it, is that the word remake is not really appropriate. It’s misleading because this really is a new interpretation of the story. The way the characters and the story, is approached, it’s very much its own movie.”
