A Death In The Gunj Released Today, To A Thunderous Applause!

Konkona SenSharma’s ‘A Death In The Gunj’ was one of the most awaiting directorial debuts in recent times. It sure seems like the film, which released today, has got its due if the applause and praises the film has received is anything to go by. Truly, what a debut for Konkona!

Studioz IDrream’s ‘A Death In The Gunj’ is set in a colonial town in late 1970s and is weaved around a family reunion at a retired army colonel’s home.  At the outset, the makings of a perfect family holiday are in place but there is something in the Gunj that can’t be kept at bay. It insinuates its way into the group until the holiday has ended in an implosion, resulting in an unavoidable event.

The film boasts of an ensemble of India’s finest indie actors – Om Puri, Tillotama Shome, Kalki Koechlin, Ranvir Shorey, Gulshan Devaiah, Tanuja, Vikrant Massey. The film has been jointly produced with Abhishek Choubey and Honey Trehan in their new company – MacGuffin Pictures. The film is presented by Studioz IDrream which is founded by Ashish Bhatnagar, and has already been associated with over 16 unconventional films. Vijay Kumar R Swami, an advertising professional and Raagii Bhatnagar, a feature film screenwriter, have joined the Board to give further impetus to the kind of cinema Studioz IDrream associates with.

Konkona’s directorial debut was selected by Toronto Film Festival and the Busan Film Festival besides being the opening film at Mumbai’s prestigious MAMI film festival. Studioz Idrream and MacGuffin Pictures’ ‘A Death In The Gunj’ released in India today by PVR Pictures in more than 100 cinemas.
