Vir Das Fool Volume has earned an International Emmy Awards 2026 nomination in the Comedy category, giving the Indian comedian another major international recognition for his work with Netflix.
The nomination was announced by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on September 23, with the 2026 International Emmy Awards featuring 64 nominees across 16 categories representing 22 countries. The winners will be announced at the 54th International Emmy Awards Gala in New York City on November 23, 2026.
Vir Das Fool Volume Earns International Emmy Nomination
The Vir Das Fool Volume nomination adds another chapter to Das’ growing International Emmy history.
Das previously received an International Emmy nomination for his Netflix special Vir Das: For India in 2021. In 2023, his Netflix special Vir Das: Landing won the International Emmy for Comedy, tying with Derry Girls – Season 3. The International Academy’s official winners archive lists Vir Das: Landing as the 2023 Comedy winner from India.
The 2026 nomination for Fool Volume therefore marks another International Emmy recognition for Das and his continuing partnership with Netflix.
In 2024, Das also returned to the International Emmy stage as host of the ceremony in New York, following his 2023 win.
Vir Das Talks About His International Emmy 2026 Nomination
Speaking about the Vir Das International Emmy 2026 nomination, Das said:
“Every few years, Netflix and I find a new reason to get together and make something slightly foolish… I mean, funny. I’m humbled all over again to be nominated for an International Emmy.”
Describing Fool Volume, Das said the special is about silence, what it means to have a voice and what happens when people actually use it.
He also thanked the International Emmy jury, audiences, his team and Netflix for giving him the opportunity to create work he believes in.
The nomination comes as Das continues to build an international audience through stand-up comedy that combines observational humor, personal storytelling and commentary on contemporary life.
What Is Vir Das: Fool Volume?
Vir Das: Fool Volume is Das’ fifth collaboration with Netflix and premiered globally on the streaming platform in July 2025.
Netflix described the special as a project that puts Indian comedy in the spotlight while exploring joy, kindness and the idea of embracing the “fool” within.
The special was filmed across Mumbai, New York and London, giving it a distinctly international setting while retaining Das’ Indian perspective. Netflix described the production as a cross-continental comedy experience that explores themes including silence, self-doubt and rediscovering joy.

Netflix and Vir Das Continue Their International Emmy Journey
The latest nomination highlights the long-running creative partnership between Netflix and Vir Das.
Das’ previous Netflix special Vir Das: For India was nominated for an International Emmy in 2021, while Vir Das: Landing went on to win the Comedy category in 2023.
The International Academy’s 2023 records describe Landing as Das’ fourth Netflix stand-up special and note that the special explored themes including childhood in India, outrage, the East and West, and finding a sense of home.
Netflix has also previously highlighted Das’ 2023 International Emmy win as a landmark achievement, describing him as the first Indian comedian to win the International Emmy for Comedy.
Monika Shergill Praises Vir Das’ International Recognition
Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content, Netflix India, said the latest nomination is particularly meaningful because of the journey between Das’ three Netflix specials recognized by the International Emmys.
Shergill noted that Vir Das: For India earned his first International Emmy nomination, Vir Das: Landing subsequently won, and Fool Volume now continues that journey.
She also highlighted Das’ distinctive approach to stand-up, including his use of unusual settings, sharp humor and personal storytelling.
According to Shergill, the continued international recognition reflects the evolution of Das’ voice and craft and the ability of his Indian perspective to connect with audiences around the world.
Vir Das’ Growing Global Comedy Career
The Vir Das Fool Volume International Emmy nomination comes during another significant period in the comedian’s international career.
Das has performed at major venues around the world and has developed a touring career that has taken Indian stand-up comedy to international audiences.
His upcoming I Say We Run global comedy tour will also bring him to Radio City Music Hall in New York on January 30, 2027, continuing his international touring journey.
