The podcast space is just continuing to grow, and host Ritika Agrawal has brought her own show ‘Offscript with Ritika’ to the scene!
‘Offscript with Ritika’ is a video and audio podcast with Agrawal interviewing guests across the entertainment industry, including actor Ankur Rathee and influencer Aman (a magic man), actress Sayani Gupta, Bollywood casting director Shivam Gupta, and film producer Aporova Bakshi. Agrawal dives deep into each guests’ career journeys, their individual fields in the industry, and South Asian representation in the media space as a whole.
“I’ve had such great guests with great conversations. I’ve felt energized after each person that I’ve recorded with.”
When talking about her podcast journey, Agrawal takes us back to five years ago when she started a nonprofit in college called Young Media Professionals Network to bridge the gap for young college students looking for internships during Covid. The organization then turned into her first podcast ‘Chai with Champs’ — to turn her networking calls into a conversation that could inspire listeners.
“My networking calls could be so beneficial for other people who are trying to be a world class athlete or musician. I was like I love talking to people, I love being in front of the camera, and I want to get people inspired.”
While doing ‘Chai with Champs’, Agrawal realized that she wanted to focus more on entertainment media, and pivoted the podcast to what it is now — ‘Offscript with Ritika’. She knew that she always wanted to change the name of the podcast and rebrand it, and one of her guests eventually gave her the push to completely change the name of the show.
“After two pivots, I feel like we’ve reached the destination.”
Agrawal’s goal with the podcast was to highlight different creative journeys that often gets overlooked when mainstream audiences hear about industry professionals once they achieve something big, such as an Oscar or Emmy nomination. She wants to provide listeners a front row seat to the future of global entertainment especially with the boom in creator economy — with Hollywood continuing to evolve, Agrawal is hoping the podcast helps provide a blueprint to every person who wants to find their place in the entertainment industry in the podcast space.
“Even with Guneet Monga, everyone mainly heard about her after she won an Oscar, not really before that. She has been doing an incredible amount of work for over a decade, and I have had a lot of guests on my podcast who share that same story.”
As an actor as well, Agrawal feels like being an actor and podcast host have given her different mediums of storytelling, and she hopes to find more ways to tell stories in the future.
“Whether it’s a short film, a documentary series, a travel show, who knows, and that all stems from one word: storyteller. That’s my north star, and these are just different vessels for it.”
Agrawal encourages creatives within the South Asian diaspora to pursue their ideas in the media and entertainment industry, no matter whether they think they might be able to succeed.
“If you have an idea, just go for it. What’s the worst that’s going to happen, it’s not going to go well? Right now, you’re not doing it anyways, so you might as well go for it.”
