From playing at Karan Johar’s grand 50th birthday party and Salman Khan’s birthday celebration to performing at weddings and events of celebrities like Sidharth Malhotra, Kiara Advani, Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant, DJ Ganesh has witnessed some of the biggest Bollywood celebrations from close quarters.
Interestingly, Karan Johar is all set to celebrate his 54th birthday on May 25 this year. A few years ago, his grand 50th birthday celebration became one of Bollywood’s most iconic parties, and it was at this star-studded event that DJ Ganesh delivered a set that eventually became the turning point of his career. Sharing some unforgettable experiences from his journey, the DJ opened up about the turning point of his career, his most memorable event, and the unseen challenges behind the glamorous world of DJing.
Talking about the event that completely changed his career, DJ Ganesh shares how Karan Johar’s 50th birthday party became a major turning point for him. He says,
“Karan Johar Sir’s 50th birthday party was definitely the turning point of my career. Every DJ waits for that one moment when people start seeing them differently, and for me, that night completely changed everything because almost the entire industry experienced my live set together.
In this industry, one successful night spreads very fast through word of mouth. After that event, bigger planners, celebrities, and luxury wedding clients started reaching out directly. It opened a completely new space for me as a DJ and gave people confidence in my live energy and crowd-reading skills.”
Recalling one event that he can never forget, DJ Ganesh reveals that the same celebration still remains one of the most special nights of his life. He shares,
“Karan Johar Sir’s birthday party will always remain one of the most unforgettable nights of my career because it genuinely felt like a historic Bollywood celebration. Watching so many legendary actors, filmmakers, and celebrities dancing together in one room felt surreal.
As a DJ, moments like that become extremely special because you are not just playing songs — you are controlling the energy of the entire room. I played almost a seven-hour set that night, and the energy never dropped even once. Watching everyone enjoy themselves together nonstop is a feeling that is very difficult to describe in words.”
Opening up about the biggest challenges people usually do not get to see behind the glamorous lifestyle, DJ Ganesh says the pressure of constant travelling and maintaining the same energy at every event is not easy. He says,
“One of the biggest challenges people do not see is the constant travelling, back-to-back shows, and still making sure you bring the same level of energy to every single event. Sometimes you are flying from one city to another with barely any sleep, but the moment you step on stage, the audience should still feel your best version.
Every event comes with a completely different crowd, and that is actually the part I enjoy the most. Understanding a new audience, reading their energy, and building the vibe from scratch is what makes DJing exciting for me. Technical issues and last-minute changes are part of the industry, but adapting quickly is what separates a good DJ from a great one.”
