As Kriti Sanon celebrates her birthday week, it also marks a special cinematic milestone for her. Her much-loved film Mimi is set to complete four glorious years. The film not only earned her critical acclaim but also won her her first National Film Award in the Best Actress category and reaffirmed her status as one of the most powerful performers in the country.
Revealing how he came about roping in Kriti in the role of Mimi, director Laxman Utekar said, “She was always the first choice. To play Mimi, I wanted someone who had depth, and who was comfortable to work with. Because this was such a sensitive character, I wanted to have a rapport with the actor playing it. I wanted a certain mindset.”
The filmmaker further added, “While working with her in Luka Chupi, I had experienced that Kriti had so much depth. She is real, first of all. She is not fake. She has a real personality. She is hardworking. If you see her graph in Mimi… I mean, the film starts with this bubbly Mimi and by the time it ends, she is the mother of a four year old child. Her performance was like a rollercoaster. We just wanted someone who had depth, who was real, and who was ready to work hard on it. And we knew Kriti had that talent in her and that she would kill it. And she did kill it.”
These words continue to echo strongly, especially as Kriti’s career has only soared higher since. Whether it’s as a lovable robot in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, a sharp air hostess in The Crew, or taking on a dual role in Do Patti, Kriti has seamlessly transitioned across genres and screen pairings, proving she can ace any role and light up the screen with anyone.
With back-to-back successes and diverse characters to her credit, Kriti Sanon has emerged as one of the most in-demand actresses in the industry. Her journey from Mimi to the many milestones ahead reflects an artist constantly evolving, embracing every shade of storytelling, and redefining what it means to be a modern-day star.
