‘The Sabarmati Report’, directed by Dheeraj Sarna and produced by Ektaa Kapoor, stars Vikrant Massey, Riddhi Dogra, and Raashii Khanna in lead roles. The film follows the real-life incident of the burning of the Sabarmati train in 2002, that killed over 50 people, including children.
Massey plays a Hindi journalist who helps Dogra’s character, a high-profile English journalist film the aftermath of the incident, when he interviews a few of the injured passengers and learns more about the incident. His report, however, is silenced, and he leaves the field of journalism until years later, when another junior journalist, played by Raashii Khanna, discovers his hidden report, and they uncover the truth and conspiracy together.
The film opened to rave reviews from audiences and critics, and was even watched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was MLA of the Godhra area at the time when the attack occurred. Since its theatrical release, the film has moved onto ZEE5 Global, a global streaming platform.
Massey brings his prowess back to the screen with a powerful performance as Hindi journalist Samar Kumar. As a viewer, you feel bad for him during certain moments of the film, but also root for him to become the hero by the end. Dogra also steals the show as she plays Manika Rajpurohit, an egotistical and arrogant English journalist who defames Kumar in her attempt to maintain her reputation. Although the truth comes out by the end of the film, Rajpurohit doesn’t seem to suffer any professional loss for her lies, and doesn’t seem apologetic, which Dogra portrays perfectly.
