Singer Kavya Jones was born into a musical family, where her father is a singer and her mother is dancer, and started learning Hindustani classical music when she was five.

“Music was always a part of me, and when I had to jump into the professional field, I was blessed to join the Leslee Lewis live band. Leslie Lewis is the master of making 90’s pop and iconic numbers. My journey in the professional field started with him, and I have been mentored by him for the last five years.”
Jones has also sung as the lead vocalist with the Colonial Cousins as well as Shankar, Shivam and Sidharth Mahadevan. She performs live and records music in a studio, and was able to produce her self-titled debut EP “Kavya Jones” alongside Leslee Lewis, which was critically acclaimed by audiences due it being a different style of music.
“Leslee sir keeps the artists interests and authentic self at the front, while he’s creating the compositions, so it becomes extremely easy for me to adapt to it. So that really helps me perform the song and emote it, because that’s how I feel he presents my strength in the song.”
Unlike most artists, Jones actually started off her music career performing live, so it’s very easy for her to transition between the studio and the stage.
“When I ventured into the recording business, that I felt came very naturally to me. Singing live and singing in the studio are two completely different things, but singing live helped me so much in the studio, because in live you get that one take, and you have that one chance. In the recording studio, you have multiple chances of making that take better.”
She credits the dedication she had to learning her craft to helping her hone in on the quality of her music and sooth the mic when she was recording in the studio.
When she was asked to perform at the Manavi gala this year, Jones said there was no doubt in her mind that she wanted to be a part of the event. Manavi is a South Asian non-profit located in the U.S. that focuses on helping domestic violence survivors find safety and restart their lives.

“To be called and attach myself to a cause that they have been supporting for decades, and to just be a part of this cause, it just moved me. I come from a country, where a lot of this happens, and I’m exposed to news where you hear a woman or a man being abused mentally or physically, and it shapes you.”
Jones’ performance at the Gala brought attendees together at the end of the night as they saluted the organization’s cause and celebrated their fundraising efforts.
