Uorfi Javed is one of the most popular and sought after social media stars. Her name has become synonymous with unique fashion choices, and is often praised by popular celebrities and magazines worldwide. In the spirit of Halloween, many celebrities are dressing up with their spooky and horror-inspired looks. Uorfi decided to take Indian inspiration from Bollywood for this otherwise western celebration. However this was misunderstood by many.
A few days ago, Uorfi posted a reel of her Halloween outfit, and it was a recreation of Rajpal Yadav’s character Chhote Pandit from the 2007 horror-comedy ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’. While Uorfi even captioned the post with a reference to the character of Chhote Pandit, the look was still misunderstood. Some felt the elements of the look were intentionally used to mock religious sentiments.
To clear all the unnecessary hate and comments she has been receiving, Uorfi took to her Instagram account, to clarify things as clearly as possible. She also mentioned the extent of the trolling she was receiving in the form of threats.
Posting a picture of her look alongside Rajpal Yadav’s look from Bhool Bhulaiyaa, she wrote,
“Rajpal yadav se kisi ko koi problem nahi hua but maine jab ye look recreate liya toh sabko mujhse problem hai . I’ve received so many death threats, rape threats for no reason . All these so called dharm k rakshak suddenly woke up after I wore this outfit 10 years of bhool Bhulaiya movie ! No color belongs to any religion, no agarbatti belongs to any religion, no flower belongs to any religion .”
Many have since praised Uorfi and acknowledged both her creativity and clarification. Hopefully Uorfi’s clarification will be a reminder to read and properly assess things before passing judgements.
