South Asian singer Lara Raj Makes it to the Top 20 in ‘The Debut: Dream Academy’

Lara Raj, an Indian-origin American singer is participating in the singing competition called ‘The Debut: Dream Academy’, and has made it to the top twenty contestants.

Raj, whose older sister Rhea Raj is also a singer and musician, is competing with nineteen other girls to be a part of a new global girl group. The competition was created and helmed by South Korean company HYBE Entertainment and American label Geffen Records. HYBE notably manages popular K-Pop group BTS, and had announced their joint venture with Geffen Records in 2021. 

Lara Raj, who is 17, is also an actress, and is best known for her role in ‘The Blacklist’ which aired on NBC. She is widely known as a “triple-threat” in the entertainment industry, as she can sing, dance and act. In 2019, Raj was a part of Michelle Obama’s Global Girl’s Alliance campaign.

Contestants have been training for the competition for almost a year, and have received professional training in the K-Pop artistic style. All twenty contestants and their journeys will be integrated into the South Korean media platform Weverse, allowing fans to connect with them, and the future girl group.
