ZEE5, the world’s largest streaming platform for South Asian content, will launch in the United States on June 22.
The U.S. is the final and largest launch for ZEE5. This move sets the stage for its rapid growth in a market with a 5.4 million diaspora audience with a deep cultural connection to the content.
This direct-to-consumer service launch is significant at a time when home-sick Indians in America are unable to travel home.
ZEE5 will officially announce its launch in the U.S. on 22nd June at a virtual event. During this event, its platform and content will be unveiled. The company will share key details about its plans for the market and its local partnerships, brand campaign and more. Furthermore, actress, activist, and entrepreneur Priyanka Chopra Jonas has been confirmed as a guest at the launch party.
With this launch, the streaming platform will open up access to the largest catalogue of South Asian content. This includes Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi content. With 130,000 hours of content across 18 languages, ZEE5 will offer a premium, highly accessible and affordable option for viewers to engage with the best of South Asian stories.
ZEE5’s catalogue aggregates classics as well as modern stories across a wide range of categories and genres.

“Language of your comfort” is a key promise across content, navigation and even voice search. ZEE5’s content library is tailor-made for the diverse cultures and languages of Indian and South Asian communities in the U.S. The languages include Hindi, Bengali, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Oriya, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, Punjabi, as well as Malay, Thai, Bahasa, Arabic, Urdu and Bangla (Bangladeshi). Key titles are also subtitled or dubbed in English.

How long has your team been planning this launch? How is this particular launch significant / different from launches in other countries?Our US plan has been in the pipeline for several months now. We’ve been working across teams to ensure that everything is aligned for the launch. With over 5.4M South Asians, the U.S. is the largest and most significant international market for ZEE5. This is one we are extremely excited about. We’re really looking forward to kicking off numerous plans for this market and building out deep connections with audiences here. We have extremely aggressive plans for the market and intend on becoming the foremost platform for South Asian content by year end. Our fabulous content plans and partnerships will be a key part of that and we look forward to sharing all these updates on June 22nd.

The event is at 11.30 EST. It will give viewers a look into not only the treasure trove of content we have live on the platform today and that will finally be available in the U.S., but also a sneak peek into the content lineup that’s to come.
