NIA to Probe Sushant Singh Rajput Case after ED,CBI and NCB ?

Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead on June 14 in his apartment in Bandra, Mumbai. As per the reports, Sushant was found hanging in his bedroom, and right after he was found hanging, he was taken down in order to save his life, if there was any possibility. However, he was gone by that time.

Initially, the Mumbai police was investigating the case along with the Enforcement Directorate after the late actor’s family filed an FIR against actor’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her family for abetment to suicide, money-laundering, cheating, theft, and several other allegations.

For a while, Bihar police also tried investigating the case but due to non-cooperation from the Mumbai police, as per reports, the Bihar government requested the Centre to transfer the case to CBI. The Supreme Court, however, later on, handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation. The agency was probing the case from the angle of whether Sushant died by suicide or was it a foul play.

The CBI and the ED probed the case together for a while until the ED found evidences of drug from Rhea’s WhatsApp chats, which revealed she used to procure and consume drugs. In the first week of September, the NCB arrested Rhea, her brother Showik and Sushant’s house manager Samuel Miranda with other drug peddlers. The judicial custody Rhea and Showik along with others have also been extended till October 6.

However, the latest reports suggest that after 3 Central agencies are already probing the case, another agency is ready to be a part of the investigating team. As per a notification issued by the Government of India, National Investigation Agency (NIA) has joined it. The notification stated that the government has reportedly invested the NIA officials to exercise their powers and perform duties within the area of their jurisdiction.

The Hindustan Times in its report stated that the Centre has cleared the agency to probe into cases related to drugs.

If the NIA will join the investigation, it will be the 4th federal agency in the probe.
