Aanand L Rai is all set to impress us with his upcoming flick Atrangi Re. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Dhanush and Sara Ali Khan in lead roles. This venture marks the second outing of Aanand with Dhanush, while it’s his first with Akshay and Sara. What’s interesting is that the three lead actors are teamed up for the first time together.
Aanand recently opened up about the genre of the film to a leading daily stating,
“The title means ‘funnily weird’. So, I needed a cast that’d raise questions. All my characters are ‘funnily weird’ and it’s their emotional journey.”
Further speaking about getting the three actors together he said,
“I don’t see casting as a task you need to pull off. I look for partners who are as emotionally charged as me on the journey – I was fortunate to get these three on board. Akshay responded to my honesty.”
Atrangi Re will go on floors next month. The team will be shooting in Bihar before moving to Madurai. The director said,
“It’s a great mix of two Indian cultures. We start shooting in a town in Bihar and move to Madurai after that.”
Rubbishing reports suggesting Akshay has a cameo in Atrangi Re the director clarifies,
“It’s not a cameo, but a very special character that is important to the narrative.”
Akshay had shared his excitement about the film saying,
“When he narrated the film to me, I said ‘yes’ within 10 minutes. It is a challenging character to play, but at the same time, it is such a special role that my heart just couldn’t say ‘no’ to it. I will remember it for the rest of my life.”
Akshay will join the team from mid-April post Sara and Dhanush completing the Bihar and Madurai schedules. The film will wrap up in July. Said Rai,
“We have a total shoot of 80-90 days.”
Akshay will be co-producing the movie along with Rai and Bhushan Kumar. The movie also marks the re-collaboration of Rai and writer Himanshu Sharma. Interestingly, Atrangi Re will see Rai reunite with his Raanjhanaa actor Dhanush and music composer AR Rahman.
Atrangi Re is slated to release during Valentine’s Day 2021.
