Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi aka Mahatma Gandhi as the world knows him was born on October 2, 150 years ago. Gandhiji is undoubtedly the most popular personality in the Indian history. Every child remembers his name first while speaking about India’s freedom struggle.

Mahatma: Life Of Gandhi (1968)
This documentary film on the life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi includes actual photos and videos of The Father of the Nation.
Gandhi (1982)
This film saw Hollywood actor Ben Kingsley essay the role of Mahatma Gandhi. The film documents the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi who freed India from British rule using peaceful means.
The Making Of The Mahatma (1996)
Featuring Rajat Kapoor as Gandhiji in The Making Of The Mahatma, the movie shows the complete journey of the freedom fighter from South Africa to India.
Hey Ram (2000)
The movie is a revenge saga by a victim of partition played by Kamal Hassan who portrayed the divergent set of opinions a man like Gandhi elicited. Naseeruddin Shah featured in the role of Gandhi.
Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara (2005)
The movie revolves around Uttam (Anupam Kher) and Trisha (Urmila Matondkar). Uttam blames himself for killing Mohandas K. Gandhi and now Trisha must find out if her dad was in any way responsible for Gandhi’s death or not.
Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006)
While all the other films on this list are of serious matters, this Rajkumar Hirani directorial took a tapori take on his lessons. From gundagiri to Gandhigiri, the teachings of Gandhiji were beautifully shown in the film.
Gandhi My Father (2007)
While most films are either based on his political life or lessons, this Anil Kapoor production is based on Gandhiji’s personal life. The film is spoken from the perspective of Gandhi’s son Harilal Gandhi (played by Akshaye Khanna). Darshan Jariwala played the role of Gandhi.
