At the trailer launch, Anurag Kashyap was asked about the rape threat his daughter received. For those who don’t know, Anurag has tagged the PM after his daughter received a rape threat online.

The filmmaker said,

“I get trolled a lot but I ignore it. Basically, it depends on how someone reacts to it. If someone can strongly say that such things shouldn’t happen then such things will stop automatically. The silence encourages such people. The trolling happens in excitement. People do it without thinking.”

He added,

“When I got a reaction from my daughter, I was thinking what to do. We went to the police and filed an FIR. That has it’s own course. The main reason of me tagging the PM was that until we don’t have a strong law or until someone doesn’t criticise such things in strong words, it won’t stop.”

Anurag also said,

“If I have to say something about anyone, I shouldn’t be scared. A democracy gives you the right to ask questions. I shouldn’t be made scared to ask questions. Such an atmosphere isn’t right. At an individual level, I don’t feel scared. But when your daughter is scared, you have to stand with her to give her assurance. I tell her to ignore such things. But I think this is the first time she couldn’t ignore.”

The filmmaker also spoke about having a contrary opinion.

“I fully accept that the PM candidate I didn’t support in the elections, won. It’s a public mandate. I believe in fighting for the things I believe in with the government. I don’t fight against a party, I fight against the government. In a country, you can have a contrary opinion. And that contrary opinion can coexist. I don’t relate with the PM but that doesn’t mean that he won’t be chosen because of me. He has been chosen and he’s our PM. If he comes anywhere, I will stand (in respect) like all others. But that doesn’t mean I agree with everything and keep quiet.”
