Varun Dhawan Speaks About Shah Rukh Khan Being Offered Kalank

The trailer of Abhishek Varman’s Kalank starring Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sonakshi Sinha was launched today.

 

For the uninitiated, Kalank was conceptualized years ago and was supposed to be directed by Karan Johar. Shah Rukh Khan was supposed to play the character which Varun Dhawan is now playing.

 

At the trailer launch, Varun was asked about playing a character which was supposed to be played by SRK and whether he got speak with Shah Rukh Khan about it.

He said,

“I never spoke to him about how I should approach the role. I was obviously aware of Shah Rukh sir and the other cast that was supposed to do this film. When Karan’s father passed away, he didn’t want to revisit this story. But it was very close to his heart. At that time when Karan has narrated the film’s story to Abhishek, no one would’ve thought that he would direct it one day and I would act in it.”

 

He added,

“I met Shah Rukh sir around a week ago and he had some good things to say about the teaser. He was happy about me working hard and told me that doing such roles would bring me closer to the audience.”
