Today, 4th February is marked as World Cancer Day. It is a day dedicated to raising awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.
When was it founded:
World Cancer Day was founded by the Union For International Cancer Control (UICC) to support the goals of the World Cancer Declaration, written in 2008.
Today on World Cancer Day, we at UrbanAsian would like to applaud those Bollywood celebrities who fought cancer and who are still fighting it with a big smile and a lot of courage.
- Manisha Koirala: Ovarian Cancer

On 29th November 2012, Manisha had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and underwent surgery on 10th December. The surgery was successful.
- Yuvraj Singh: Stage 1 Cancer

In 2011, Yuvraj was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in his left lung (stage 1) and underwent chemotherapy in the USA. In March 2012, he returned to India and was even part of the 2012 T20 World Cup after recovery.
- Lisa Ray: Cancer (Multiple Myeloma)

On 23rd June 2009, Lisa was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. It is a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow, a rare disease. In April 2010, the actress-model announced she was cancer-free but not completely cured. The rare disease is treatable but incurable.
- Rakesh Roshan: Squamous cell carcinoma

In 2019 only Rakesh Roshan has been diagnosed with early stage of squamous cell carcinoma, a type of throat cancer. He is still recovering from it. The 69-year-old filmmaker proved that nothing could deter him as he posed for an image in gym wear with his dapper son flashing a smile just before his operation.
- Sonali Bendre- Metastatic Cancer

In 2018, Sonali Bendre revealed that she has been diagnosed with metastatic cancer. Sonali Bendre took to Twitter in an emotional post. She is currently getting treated in New York.
- Irrfan Khan- Neuroendocrine Cancer

Earlier in 2018, Irrfan Khan revealed he had been diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer. The actor was in New York for his treatment and is still recovering.
- Anurag Basu- Blood Cancer

In 2004, Anurag Basu was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia (a type of blood cancer). Although the doctors gave him a verdict of two months it did not shake Basu’s spirit and he made the recovery.
- Tahira Kashyap: Breast Cancer

September 2018, actor Ayushmann Khurrana’s wife Tahira Kashyap was diagnosed with Stage 0 cancer and she revealed on social media that she had undergone a mastectomy. However, cancer returned and Tahira in an Instagram post shared that she had Stage 1 breast cancer. Tahira hasn’t let this ailment deter her and is now gearing up for her directorial debut.
