Gone are the days when television was dominated by saas-bahu sagas. People are so done with the melodrama of the in-laws that they are now enjoying the drama the supernatural has to offer. Supernatural shows seem to be on the rise since the last couple of years.
We bet kids born in the 90s remember Anhoni, Aahat, Fear Files, Ssshhhh…Koi Hai – the supernatural horror shows that gave us sleepless nights. But then to the Tele industry was mainly dominated with the saas-bahu drama starting with K (mainly). With the arrival of the new century, reality shows started picking up pace and gained a lot of love and popularity.
But since the telecast of Ekta Kapoor’s supernatural Naagin in 2015, it seems people have made a place for characters who are considered a myth in their hearts. This Mouni Roy-Arjun Bijlani starrer ruled the TRP charts during both its seasons giving tough competition to all shows- fictional and reality.
Since then, its seem every major Hindi general entertainment channel has 1-2 supernatural shows running at the moment. Zee TV – India’s first Hindi entertainment channel – is all set to premiere their latest offering in this field with Manmohini. Colors too is set to launch 2 new supernatural shows – Tantra and Vish Ya Amrit… Sitara.
Take a look at all the current Supernatural shows on television today:
1. Nazar (Star Plus)
This Star Plus series is one of the most watched shows on television today. Produced by Gul Khan and Karishma Jain’s 4 Lions Films, the series is centred around a family that’s under the ‘nazar’ of an evil daayan. The show is full of other supernatural creatures like a Daivik, a Daavansh, more daayans and now a Chudail as well
2. Naagin 3 (Colors)
The series that started on Colors in 2015 is in its 3rd season and in the top ten shows. Starring Surbhi Jyoti, Anita Hassanandani and Pearl V Puri in the lead the show follows the Icchadhari Naagins taking revenge for the death of their family.
3. Qayamat Ki Raat (Star Plus)
This supernatural show is about the women of a family being cursed by a tantric for the mother not having a relationship with him. The show also has many instances where people get possessed by the supernatural.
4. Fear Files ( Zee TV)
This is a supernatural series that focuses on real-life stories based on paranormal, supernatural and mysterious events that people across India have encountered. The show also goes on to unveils the mystery behind these stories.
5. Kaal Bhairav Naya Rahasya (Star Bharat)
The second season of Kaal Bhairav Rahasya – Kaal Bhairav Naya Rahasya – premiered on November 20. The series deals with Lord Kaal Bhairav coming to the aid of his devotees while they are faced with supernatural occurrences
6. Vish Ya Amrit… Sitara (Colors)

This upcoming supernatural series of Colors featuring Ada Khan in the lead in about a Vishkanya. The show also starring Lavina Tandon and Shilpa Saklani will air on the channel from the end of November.
7. Tantra (Colors)
This upcoming show is said to be full of black magic and jadu tona. It deals with a family building their home on a place used for witchcraft and its effect on the people who live there. The show will premiere on Colors soon.
8. Manhomini (Zee TV)

Manhomini portrays a romantic horror storyline which stars Garima Singh Rathore and Ankit Siwach as the lead characters and Reyna Malhotra in the negative lead. Produced by Prateek Sharma’s LSD Films the show will premiere on 27th November at 7:30 pm replacing the ongoing Kaalerein.
