UN Champions of the Earth Awards hosted by Dia Mirza and Alec Baldwin
The UN annual flagship awards finally took place! Actor, Alec Baldwin, Environment Goodwill Ambassador hosted these awards with actress, Dia Mirza.
The event honoured six environmental change-makers between the ages of 18 to 30. The Champions took home the coveted Young Champions of the Earth Prize. The prize was for their amazing project ideas to restore and protect the environment.
Young champion Arpit Dhupar held the Indian flag high therefore being proud. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen at the event as well. Cochin Airport won the award along with Joan Carling.
French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Modi are working towards actions because of policy, they are working on Global Impact. Modi has pledged to eliminate plastic use in India by 2022. A plan we are all working towards to save our planet. It is amazing to see what young minds can create when working towards something positive!
The Head of UN Environment, Erik Solheim added : “In a world of uncertainty, this is certain: We will not solve the extraordinary challenges our world faces today without extraordinary talent, new thinking and bold ideas. “The Champions of the Earth Award and Young Champions of the Earth Prize recognize those not afraid to be the voice of the voiceless. These people are changing our world today for a better tomorrow.”
Actress and UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador, Dia Mirza stated that this was her second year hosting the awards. She was so proud to be part of such an amazing platform. It was an honour to her to be able to host with Alec Baldwin. Dia truly enjoyed the experience rather than just seeing the change-makers win.
The awards took place in New York City, on the sideline of the 73rd UN General Assembly.
