During our chat, Ajay spoke about The Ajay Gehi Show, his experience working on it, acting and more. Read our chat with Ajay Gehi to know more:

1. How was the experience working on The Ajay Gehi Show?
The Ajay Gehi Show was an exciting journey. Right from the beginning to the time the final episode was aired, it was a unique experience, primarily because the show was conceptualized, written, directed and performed by me. It was fun and tough at the same time. I was exploring a new genre, a new format, and I picked up on a lot of things about the audience which was enlightening in their own way. The show features anecdotal comedic monologues and is a jovial take on things that go unnoticed in our everyday fast-paced lives. Hence, it was about creating a show that allows people to forget their worries and have a good laugh.

2. Any learnings from the show?
In my opinion, the biggest revelation was the fact that people love to laugh and have a good time. I realized that the aam aadmi prefers comedy as a source of entertainment because such content is universal and funny. The Ajay Gehi Show caters to everyone and is not restricted to a certain set of audience. The format is light, content is relatable and clean, which leaves a strong message.

3. Was the switch from acting to comedy a conscious decision?
I have always identified myself as an actor. Taking on The Ajay Gehi Show was not really a switch as much as it was about exploring a genre in a new format. Exploring comedy was a conscious decision. Comedy is a tricky genre to deal with; you have to let go of your fear of embarrassment and understand that people are not laughing at you rather laughing with you at something you said. I’m glad that it proved to be a fruitful decision and the show has been received positively by the audience.

4. Do you plan to return acting in movies?
Yes, I’m returning to movies. My film, ‘We Didn’t Kill Mia’ will release early next year. The others might release before the end of next year too.

5. Do we see a second season of The Ajay Gehi Show?
We have received a positive response from the audience. Of course, I would be glad to do a second season of The Ajay Gehi Show. But I would await a final announcement from Artist Aloud before answering this question in affirmative.

6. How and when did Artist Aloud come on board?
The Ajay Gehi Show is Artist Aloud’s maiden original content beyond music. They were on board right from the conceptualization phase. I presented the idea to them and I’m happy that we decided to partner for this project. They gave me the liberty to write, direct and at the same time perform it in my way. Their openness to explore new genres and ideas was extremely refreshing. I thought it was a great opportunity to enjoy my creative freedom and discover a new way to connect with my audience.

7. A tough phase from your life & how you came out of it?
Tough phases are like a part and parcel of life. I can probably write an encyclopedia on the tough phases in my life. One of the most trying times for me was when my film ‘The Good Road’ was selected as India’s entry to the Oscars. We all had great expectations attached to it but as life would have it, my film never got a theatrical release and right after that, the other films I signed were shelved too for some or the other reason. It seemed like I had disappeared. But, as they say, if God closes one door He opens a window. I pushed forward and motivated myself to use that time to write.

I wrote stories, screenplays, and even my debut single ‘Inside Out’ for which I even won an award. The Ajay Gehi was conceived during this time. For people who are going through a bad phase, I would advise them to only entertain positive thoughts, stay focused and believe that there is something to learn in downtime too.

8. What’s next?
As for the future, more films and shows.

We wish you luck in all your future endeavours.
