Talking about his role in Gold, the Khiladi actor said,

“This film I would basically call it a sports drama. It’s a sports drama based on a true incidence. It’s happening in 1948, one year just after India got our Independence.

But what I love about this film is not hockey, but what I want to say through this film is that every guy or every female should adapt to one sport – it doesn’t matter what sport you play.”

Elaborating further about the need for one to play any sport the actor said that the health report of India is not good, and we need to adapt to some kind of sport for our betterment. He also said that sport is helpful in getting over any addiction as well as alcoholism, as it makes the person playing sports more health conscious.

Getting back to talking about the film, Akki said,

“Also, it was a story never heard of. It talks about our first gold medal – Olympic Gold Medal –aur yeh sari baatein Saab ke Tej Fatima cause we just came out of the British rule. Side aur dab baatein the isleya yeh dash ke reh gayi.”

Concluding it he said, not many people know about it and hence when he heard it he felt the need to do it.

Talking about his inspiration for his character in Gold, Akshay said,

“I got inspired by a Senior Journalist who is Bengali and copied his whole look from Dhoti to hairstyle in the movie.”

When asked about how his films – whether social or patriotic – in spite of being inspired from real leaders we never retain the person name and yet becomes a success, he said,

“I want to make it more commercial because I want huge audience to watch my movies.”

Talking about the trends of making biopics in Bollywood, Akshay Kumar said.

Because there so many amazing stories that are there in history – there are so many biopics to be made. There are so many people who have turned India in their own ways – in different different ways towards a positive direction. I would be a fool to make a biopic on myself.”

“To make a biopic on reel heroes – I’ll be a fool, I want to make a biopic on real heroes.”
