Comedy Web Series “Gym Buddies” Pokes Fun at Fitness Culture, Explores Female Friendship.

Austin, TX (February 28, 2018) – New original comedy series “Gym Buddies” from up-and-coming creator Shruti Saran launched today at www.gymbuddies.tv. Set in Austin, Texas, the five-episode first season follows the misadventures of two best friends who join a gym and put themselves in absurd positions. The series begins when Aparna, a narcissistic and social media-obsessed millennial, is dumped by her boyfriend and ropes her best friend, Quinn, into helping her rebound from her break-up in the trendiest way possible: with a healthy lifestyle change.

As the series progresses, the initial goal of attaining the perfect post-breakup revenge body ultimately morphs into a cultivation of self-respect and a better understanding of what it means to work hard for results.

Saran reflects,

“We’re passing through a really interesting cultural moment right now for women’s rights and feminism, and as a female writer I obviously have a lot of thoughts on the subject. I chose not to create something super on the nose, but it was important to me that ‘Gym Buddies’ be female-focused.”

The series features popular talent from the Austin entertainment scene and stars stand-up comedian Nikita Redkar and singer Chelsea Lane.
