Filmy Friday review of #JabHarryMetSejal!

Spread the love

It truly is always a delight to dive into the world of Imtiaz Ali. His world always feels so beautiful to experience, I always hope it never comes to an end. What’s even better is the unique magic of ‘love’ he creates on-screen which always gives me a little hope that this magic could exist outside of reel life.

Jab Harry Met Sejal is exactly what the tagline of the film exclaims, ‘what you seek, is seeking you.’ And like any Imtiaz film, there are various layers to this tagline which unravel through a journey of beautiful cities, a problem to be solved and real life comedy which will constantly leave you with a smile on your face.

What’s most important in this entire story though is who plays the role of Harry and Sejal. Props to casting director Mukesh Chhabra for always selecting a good fit for the right roles. I wish I could show my reaction to Shah Rukh Khan’s performance in this film because it was too real feeling, there wasn’t a moment I felt he was ‘acting’ or playing a ‘role’. Anushka Sharma has obviously impressed us since day one and as always refreshing to see her step into the shoes of a new character which she makes her own. I really couldn’t see any other person from the industry playing these extraordinary characters.

If you know me, you know I am a huge Imtiaz Ali fanatic and really enjoy every single film of his. I enjoy the various layers, I enjoy his way of taking us to another country yet incorporating roots from India into his characters so naturally. I love his technique of storytelling and somehow seamlessly bringing it all together at the end. And JHMS did the same tonight! I did feel though at one or two points in the film something was lacking and unfortunately, I can’t pinpoint what it is. Perhaps the whole ensemble was so eye-catching that the one or two things were not so prominent.

If I had to sit and compare the soundtrack to other Imtiaz’s films, this one’s not particularly my all time favorite but it fits perfectly with each moment in the film and the cinematography attached to each of these tracks is jaw dropping. Props to Pritam for such a beautiful ensemble of tunes. Hawayein, Radha, and Safar are my top three favorite tracks.

All in all, Jab Harry Met Sejal is a beautiful film and is a must watch on the big screen!
