If you have seen the trailer or the mini trails of the film, you would’ve noticed her Gujarati accent.
When asked if her character is stereotyping Gujarati community, Anushka said,
“Can you say that no Gujarati speaks like that? We expect the representation that we have made in our head about it. But that’s not how it works, na? If you can tell me for a fact that aisa koi exist hi nahin karta, then I would agree.”
She further added,
“Even I asked Imtiaz this question. He told me that he has met girls like Sejal and that’s what he found charming about them. Also, the way in which Sejal speaks denotes her limited experience in life. She’s someone who has gone to a Gujarati medium school. When she goes out, it’s with her cousins. It’s not like she has a lot of friends. Her vacations are also with the family. She lives in a very constrained environment and that’s the only environment she knows. So it is also to denote her limited exposure to life.”
