Comic Con Africa 2019
Crown The Brown : Comic Con Africa 2019. This year Crown the Brown headed off to Comic Con Africa, which took place in Johannesburg at the Gallagher Convention Centre. The Convention featured 7 Halls filled with 300 exhibitors. Each hall had a dedicated theme ranging from gaming to artist halls.
One of my favourite halls had to be the Artist hall. Filled with artists from all different parts of the country. Even some international artists as well. What was so nice about this space was that the convention provided a space for emerging artists to showcase and sell their artworks.
Crown the brown was lucky to have one of our favourite youtubers Prev Reddy (Aunty Shamilla) take over our Instagram on Day 1 of Comic Con, as we explored the various exhibitors.
Announced celebrity appearances by Anthony Mackie (Avengers) and Isaac Hempstead Wright (Game of Thrones) were cancelled. Excitement was still in the air as William Shatner from Star Trek took to the KFC main stage during the weekend.
Comedy Central Africa made fans of the iconic tv sitcom Friends, scream with joy. As fans had the opportunity to take a seat on the couch featured on the show. Boet Fighter, a local game developed by Cali4ways Games had attendees queuing for a chance to play the game. An action game set in the suburb of Fourways. It has various comedic elements to the games narrative and interface.
Boet Fighters Website offers the game as a mega-schweet faaghting video game where Hard Eddy and his toughest charnas must moer all of Fourways in the face, as they faaght to reclaim his stolen binnet! It’s got creatine, vaalence and house beats, boet! Unfortunately I did not get a chance to play Boet Fighter, but I sure am excited for the release of the game.
The three days of Comic Con Africa was filled with excitement and lots to do, as 71,000 visitors attended the convention overall.
