Popular producer and director, Siddharth P Malhotra is the founder of Alchemy Productions. Talking about the benefits of knowing both sides of TV, he explains,
“The knowledge of direction helps me when I am setting or writing a show. Multitasking happens but I am not producing when I am directing a show.”
According to him, producing is more of a challenge than directing a TV show,
“Producing a show is harder than directing a film because you have to look after everything. A director has to manage the actors and the unit which he heads. But a producer has to manage everything. He has to manage the unit, the actors, he has to look after the ratings, because if they sink too much, there’s a fear for the show to go off air. So, a producer has to keep a balance of both commerce and arts.”
As a producer, he has gotten a chance to be happy given that his show ‘Icchapyari Naagin‘ is being appreciated. He says,“I am really very happy that I have got this opportunity and I am getting good feedback for the show.”
Many people say that the cast of ‘Icchapyari Naagin‘ was spot on. Ask him about it, and he says,
“For any show, I chose actors because I am also a writer and I know the role in and out. I create my show with other co-creators, so we know how the character should be. And since I have been directing too, I come to know from a director’s vision that which actor will be apt for the character. It’s important that the character has to be well maintained and groomed. Because of this, you get that vibe from a person that he or she fit as per the vision that the creator of the show has in mind. Basically, we have the gut feeling when we meet the person. We get to know as we have to work with the person for a year or more.”
The producer says he is proud of the fact that his crew is technically sound,
“I have not made any ‘saas-bahu’ shows. But yes, I am proud of our entire technical crew for the work they have done. As far as future is concerned, I want to produce theater too.”
As far as being from a film family is concerned, Siddharth says that his lineage has helped him,
“I have worked with people like Karan Johar, Sooraj Barjatiya, and the lineage did help a lot. I have done diploma from New York film Academy. I have done a lot of work with a strong team and the lineage always helped. But what matters at the end of the day is doing good work, and I am trying to do just that!”
