Sultan Ahmed was a film director and producer who is most well-known for making films on dacoits in the 1970s and 1980s. Some of his most well-known films include Heera, Ganga Ki Saugandh, Daata, and Jai Vikranta. He came from a very talented family or writers. Sultan’s grandfather was a famous Persian poet, his father was a poet, and his paternal uncle, Wajahat Mirza, wrote the epic Bollywood film Mughal-e-Azam!
Sultanji died in 2002 when he was in Tehran on a pilgrimage tour to Iraq and Iran. Remembering her husband, the late filmmaker Sultan Ahmed on his 14th death anniversary, which was on 20th May, Farah Sultan Ahmed says,
“I feel incomplete without him and sad, as he could have been alive and happy with us.”
Sultanji has left behind a huge legacy in film-making that his wife wants to keep alive. She adds,
“Anarkali Ki Wapsi – It was his dream project which never took off due to other commitments. I went through the script, which Sultan had approved and will make it a reality.”
Talking about the best part about working with her husband, Mrs. Ahmed says,
“He was a very good husband, a good director and a professional man. He taught me to believe in quality of work than quantity.”
When asked to name her favorite among all of her husband’s films, she said,
“I can’t name a particular film because all the films he did had a different message every time.”
Sharing her thoughts on children – Abbas Sultan Ahmed and Ali Akbar Sultan’s involvement in the production house, she said,
“They have grown up and are looking after the event company. I am proud of them as they are working hard to take the legacy forward. Starting with this movie, we hope to do more projects in future with God’s grace and my late husband’s blessings.”
