AIB, Sachin Tendulkar, and Lata Mangeshkar: Drawing the line between humor and disrespect

Numerous folks on social media publish comedic or other stunts simply in the name of receiving PR publicity. The group All India Bakchod (AIB) is (in)famous for crude comedy ridiculing famous B-town celebrities and stars – which can be funny at times – but this time they went way too far.

Tanmay Bhatt of AIB recently released a video mocking legendary cricket player Sachin Tendulkar and soulful singer Lata Mangeshkar that has gone totally viral on social media platforms. Many Bollywood stars, including Anupam Kher, Riteish Deshmukh, and Celina Jaitley, have raised their voices against this act of disrespect.

Not only is this video rude, shocking, and disgraceful, it is also purposeless and has no element of humor whatsoever. Evidently, Tanmay Bhatt does not have one ounce of respect for an accomplished cricket player or a legendary playback singer of Bollywood. Both Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar ought to be praised and admired, not caricatured idiotically.

Watching this video has caused folks all over the world to boil with anger and rightfully so, because Tanmay Bhatt has transcended from humor to horror within the span of two minutes. If people are so outraged watching Sachin and Lata be scorned, we can only imagine how they must be feeling as the ones who are scorned and disrespected. Shame on Tanmay.

Here’s hoping anyone in the field of comedy thinks twice before saying or publishing something that could negatively affect the sentiments of millions around the world.
