Two-time Academy Award® winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Andy Schocken, release the acclaimed documentary “Song of Lahore” on May 20, 2016 in select theaters as well as on DVD, VOD and Digital HD. Featuring the music of The Sachal Ensemble of Pakistan and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, “Song of Lahore” examines the lives and the cultural heritage of Pakistan’s classical musicians as they prepare for a concert in New York City.

“Song of Lahore” follows Sachal Studios musicians from their hometown in Pakistan to New York City as they rehearse and take the stage for a truly moving concert performance with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, after receiving a personal invitation to perform from Wynton Marsalis.

“Song of Lahore” was an official selection at numerous film festivals in 2015, including the Tribeca Film Festival, Melbourne Film Festival, Hamptons Film Festival, IDFA Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival and the Heartland Film Festival.

Also on May 20, Universal Music Classics releases an East-meets-West musical landmark: Song of Lahore, an album inspired by the moving documentary!

On this unprecedented cross-cultural, genre-bending collection the soulful musicians of the film – The Sachal Ensemble of Pakistan – perform iconic songs of understanding and hope alongside stars from across jazz, rock, R&B and Americana, all convened by Grammy Award-winning producer Eli Wolf. The lineup of musical talent includes Bilal, Cibo Matto, Nels Cline, Marisol Hernandez, Seu Jorge, Jim James, Sean Lennon, Wynton Marsalis, Madeleine Peyroux, Becca Stevens, Meryl Streep and Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks performing reimaginings of songs made iconic by the likes of Duke Ellington, Bob Marley, Nina Simone, George Harrison, Michael Jackson, Allen Toussaint, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder and Elvis Costello
