Bollywood’s new diva, angry young man, and prince charming aka Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra and Fawad Khan—are hard at work on promotions for their upcoming flick, “Kapoor and Sons Since 1921!” During a recent video conference with the press of New York City, the three stars shared loads of laughs and revealed their love for the film’s storyline.

All three stars described their roles as very relatable characters and the Kapoor family as a “real” family which audiences are sure to fall in love with. It’s not always fun and songs, this film brings out the good, the bad and the hidden secrets that can be found in a family.

“What I loved is that we’re not only showing a happy, funny side of the family and that to me was refreshing.” Alia said. “I think because the film focuses on relationships in general, it is important to show a more vulnerable side of the relationship. That’s what I think is relatable…every family has fighting.”

Sidharth Malhotra also expressed the same feelings about the film, that it is a very real and relatable story because there are intense moments as well as laughs like the average family faces.

“The tone of the film is very real, very middle class and how it happens in every household,” Sidharth Malhotra said. “And within that we are trying to showcase this sweet endearing story that how a grandfather wants to bring his family back for a family portrait which he doesn’t have because, in today’s day and age to click a family photo, you need to bring the family together, to be happy and pose for the picture.”

“Kapoor and Sons Since 1921” portrays a heated relationship between two brothers played by Sidharth Malhotra and Fawad Khan. While Sidharth’s character is the black sheep, Fawad plays the perfect older brother. The two reunite when their ill grandfather, played by Rishi Kapoor, calls his family together to be with him on what could be his last days. The reunion brings to light a lot of dark secrets of the family, like the fact that Sidharth and Fawad’s parents no longer sleep in the same room, their father may have a too-close-for-comfort relationship with a family friend and their parents are constantly fighting over finances. To make matters worse both brothers fall for the same girl!

As the story unfolds, we realize that all the characters have had their fair share of mistakes and bad decisions. The family members who seem perfect aren’t necessarily so, and the ones who seem imperfect have had good reasons for their actions. Things are never as they seem and families are never perfect, these themes seen in this film are what make it unique, real and easy to fall in love with.
