Nothing has made me happier than seeing the constant change Dharma Productions has brought with time into our industry. Change of course can always be a hit-or-miss, but with Kapoor And Sons (KNS) it has turned out to be a total hit!
Shakun Batra’s second directed film after Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu has got me feeling all types of ways today and I am so glad I made it to the movies.
KNS is one of those good-feel, yet realistic films. Almost any person can relate to this film. The family-drama film is full of non-stop laughter, lot’s of tears, and just bitter-sweet moments. While we all wish our lives were like the perfect K3G lifestyle, KNS shows a more realistic family lifestyle which makes one realize that we should be extremely grateful for what life gives us.
Every single individuals acting in the film was remarkable. Of course our hot-trio Siddharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt, and Fawad Khan were superb, but in addition Rathna Pathak, Rishi Kapoor, and Rajat Kapoor were simply outstanding. Everyone’s on-screen chemistry was so real that at one point I really felt this was a real family’s story I was watching.
What was interesting to see from a technical point of view was the overlapping dialogue. The film did not feel entirely scripted. Each individual actor executed their roles accurately which helped understand each individual character alone. Another part which I thoroughly enjoyed was the cinematography of the film. While the majority of the film took place in one location, so much happened in that one single place and it was captured so well.
The ‘change’ which I mentioned earlier was simply about topics, or issues covered in the film. It’s 2016 and accepting is a necessity in our society. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but there are some topics covered in KNS which simply made me feel good inside. And while some audience members around me could not accept what was happening on celluloid, it shows the immaturity our Indian audience may have towards certain un-spoken topics in our society.
Lastly the music has been a total hit for me for the last three weeks. I’ve been non-stop jamming to the KNS soundtrack and cannot pin-point exactly which is my favorite track. They’re all so well composed and catchy.
All in all, Kapoor And Sons was a fantastic film. It’s one of those films you simply cannot miss. You will laugh, cry, and simply feel good at the end.
