It’s Valentines day weekend and today we were taken into director Abhishek Kapoor’s vision of Charles Dickens’ novel Great Expectations.
The artistic love-story film stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Katrina Kaif, and Tabu in lead roles. The film also stars major supporting roles like Ajay Devgn, Aditi Rao Hydari, Lara Dutta, and Jason Shah plus many more.
‘Fitoor’ meaning, obsession. In context of the film: obsession of love, and having that love isn’t easy.
Fitoor is one of those artistic films which was beautifully presented on-screen visually. Abhishek Kapoor reiterated Great Expectations through his own eyes basing the film around beautiful snowy-scenic Kashmir and the posh lifestyle of Delhi. I can’t vouch on whether the film matched Dickens’ story, but I personally enjoyed the story of Fitoor.
What stood out in the entire ensemble was no other than Tabu. She is such a flawless actress, its hard to take your eyes off her when watching her play the role of Begam Hazrat. In fact I’d have to say that the films story almost revolves around her mostly. Aditya plays the obsessed lover and miraculous artist Noor. Its hard to say whether I saw any change in roles from his past films, but its always refreshing to see him on the big-screen. Katrina is an actress I have found to be a bit lifeless which brought a bit of the film down. She’s gorgeous, and her costumes were beautiful, but her role as Firdaus was a bit disappointing to see. If anything Tabu and other supporting roles kept the film going.
The cinematography of the film was extreme eye-candy. The sets, the costumes, and the beautiful paintings and art-pieces were astonishing to see. The dialogues were impactful, and each and every scene kept the story moving forward wondering why love is so complicating at times? There were points though the film felt a bit slow.
Amit Trivedi’s music is always beautiful to listen to, and his music did add justice to each moment in the film. I was very disappointed to see that the song Pashmina which was promoted as a dance piece between Aditya and Katrina ended up just being a song played in the back between scene.
