The album of Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina Kaif starrer Fitoor is out on Zee Music! Composed by Amit Trivedi with lyrics penned by Swanand Kirkire, Fitoor is one of the most anticipated albums of the year. Check it out below!
“Yeh Fitoor Mera” was the first track of the film to be released and has the typical Amit Trivedi melodic touch that reminds listeners of his previous musical hits, namely Kai Po Che, Queen, and Lootera. It is difficult to recognize that Arijit Singh has rendered this song but as usual, he has sung marvelously!
“Pashmina”, sung by Amit Trivedi, has many strengths, including the string sections that connect different parts of the song. The harmonies add dimension but could be mixed better to sound a bit louder and more emphasized. Swanand Kirkire’s profound lyrics steal the show in this song, particularly with the interesting rhyme scheme and occasional repetition of the phrase “aise kaise”. To top it all off, the beautiful video featuring Katrina and Aditya in gorgeous contemporary dance avatars makes this song a treat to hear and watch!
Sung by Zeb Bangash, the third track in the album is “Haminastu”. Just looking at the title of the song (before even hearing it), I was intrigued. What I thought was going to be a Sanskrit song (because of the “astu” suffix) turned out to have an Urdu/Arabic flavor, setting the tone for the entire film. I absolutely love the oud guitar bits interspersed throughout the song, which further lend a Middle Eastern touch to this exotic track.
“Hone Do Batiyan” is a female duet in the voices of Nandini Srikar and Zeb Bangash. Set to a 7-count beat, this song gets more and more addictive as it goes on. Amit Trivedi’s choice of singers is quite fascinating – Nandini and Zeb’s voices blend very well together, with each maintaining her uniqueness at the same time.
“Tere Liye” is a romantic duet sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Jubin Nautiyal. Jubin’s voice somewhat resembles that of Amit Trivedi except with a smoother texture. This song has a similar vibe to “Yeh Fitoor Mera”. I wish there were vocal harmonies in this track; they would have made this romantic number stand out a bit more.
“Rangaa Re” has a unique beginning but unfortunately that’s the only thing this song has going for it. With a Hindi version sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Amit Trivedi and an English reprise sung by Caralisa Monteiro and Amit Trivedi (with lyrics by Caralisa), Rangaa Re’s underlying beats and orchestration have shades of hip-hop and R n B, particular because of the clapping sound. I felt myself waiting for something musically interesting or significantly different to happen throughout this song but it never quite does. Nevertheless, Caralisa’s voice is melodious and somewhat reminiscent of Shakira in terms of texture and tonal quality.
Final Verdict: Fitoor is definitely one of the better albums compared to much of the music being produced in Bollywood today. Amit Trivedi is a music composer of a certain class and standard and despite a few boring melodies, he maintains that standard in Fitoor. We hope to see how these melodious, soulful numbers are pictured in the film, which releases on February 12, 2016!
