'Udeekan' singer Salman Ijaz gets candid with Urban Asian!

Singer and songwriter Salman Ijaz is more than what meets the eye. The singer/song writer, who has been passionately involved with music since the age of 12, met with a severe accident at the age of 14. Despite having burns on his face due to the accident, the artist continues to inspire audiences to love the skin they are in. We sat down with Salman for a heart to heart about his music, his life changing experience and more. Here is what he had to say:

What lead you to pursue music?

Singing has always been my passion. When I was 10, my cousins and my brother’s friends insisted that I always sing for them. They complimented my voice and would sit to hear me sing for hours. When I entered high school, I participated in a number of competitions and ended up winning first prize several times.

Is there a musician or singer you look up to?

I really look up to Dr.Zeus and am hoping to work with him one day.

Your song Udeekan has received an overwhelming response from audiences. How does it feel?

Goes without saying, I feel great. I expected to be recognized for my talent one day, but did not think it would happen so quickly!

You made it a point to explain the accident which occurred in your childhood which is commendable.Was there ever a time you felt uncomfortable with your scars? If so, how did you overcome the issue?

many people advised me to do plastic surgery after the incident but I never felt the need to dos o. I was and still am very comfortable in my skin and do not think I need surgery. My scars are a part of me now.

You’ve received over 5000 hits on your song. Is there any feedback in particular which has stood out to you?
All the responses I received are special to me. I cherish each and every word the audience word and respect the audience has bestowed upon me.

What is your fondest memory from your childhood?
My fondest memory would have to be a school trip to Masoorie . I remember singing the entire way to the hill station and my friend cheering me on.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Saheb and Sonu Nigam
