Party Season Saree Styles by Sulakshana Monga

With saree styles ever evolving to combine grace and femininity with functionality, the iconic statement piece remains a firm favorite for the party season. Consistently synonymous with grace and glamour, shapes are becoming increasingly playful, bold and adventurous, often crafting the whole nine yards into dramatic but wearable cocktail wear pieces. Indian couture designer, Sulakshana Monga, has balanced this melange to perfection, check out her latest collection! CM3_1858

Popular saree pieces this season include the Black and Khaki Dhoti Saree, seamlessly juxtaposing structured, military chic with flowing drapes, detailed embroidery and patchwork, simultaneously playing on the masculine and feminine.

This new collection reflects a smarter, characterised look, portraying the stronger side of femininity. The essence of the collection is Indian and the structure contemporary, fusing indigenous techniques with a modern treatment. The silhouettes are well constructed, mixing traditional with western to create a fresh narrative for the saree. The detailed thread embroideries, patchwork and geometrical webs create luxurious surfaces on canvasses of silks, chiffon’s, georgette’s and chanderies.

In contrast, the ivory collection represents sartorial elegance and romantic, vintage glamour. A beautiful play of soft colors and fabrics with traditional embroidery tapings gives the collection a soft look. Elegant cuts and layers, fluid satins and sheer nets in a fresh colour palette of beige, aquatic blue and peach make the designs extremely feminine and fresh. The pieces combine saree with dhoti; backless saree gowns with antique gold, three-dimensional lacework; and traditional, chiffon sarees matched with contemporary tops.

Sulakshana Monga’s lauded designs transcend the boundaries of seasonal trends in favour of an experimentation with aesthetics – masterpieces sought after by Indian fashion influencers and tastemakers across the globe. High profile clients include Bollywood actresses Deepika Padukone, Ileana D’Cruz and Sunny Leone, to name a few. Sulakshana has been the recipient of coveted accolades including the Shama Prasad Mukherjee Award in the field of Art (2015) and the Bharat Gaurav Award (2014).
