Jio MAMI 17th Mumbai Film Festival with Star India premiered a section this year called ‘PLAY’, which was held on November 1st at PVR Juhu. The section screened the best of internet films – sketches, short films, and web series – with young and talented YouTube sensations like All India Bakchod (AIB), The Viral Fever (TVF), East India Comedy (EIC), SNG Comedy, and Aditi Mittal, who showcased their original content to amazing audience response.
The films, which included world premieres of content yet to release on the internet, were followed by a panel discussion on the future of digital content in India, featuring the who’s who of the internet world: Tanmay Bhat (AIB), Biswapati Sarkar (TVF), Satya Raghavan (YouTube India Content Head), Alex Kuruvilla (MD, Conde Nast India), Smita Jha (Executive Director, PwC India), and Sujoy Ghosh. It was moderated by PLAY curator, Nikhil Taneja.
Tanmay Bhat from AIB made a huge announcement at the panel. For the first time since their inception, AIB will be getting into fiction with an original series. The comedy collective will be revealing more about it next week but they chose to make the announcement at PLAY to a resounding crowd response.
The original Yash Raj Films YouTube series from their youth studio, Y-Films, ‘Bang Baaja Baaraat’ also premiered at ‘PLAY’. The web series is a hilarious take on what happens when two families from different backgrounds come together for a wedding. The series is directed by Anand Tiwari, written by Sumeet Vyas, and features Ali Fazal, Angira Dhar, Rajit Kapur, Shernaz Patel, Gajraj Rao, Ayesha Raza, and Neil Bhoopalam, who were all present at the venue for the red-carpet premiere. The series got lots of laughter and loud applause from the audience.
