How did you get started on YouTube?

I actually started blogging in my last year of University and my boyfriend suggested that I should start a blog where I talk about makeup, hair, skincare and generally all things beauty related. So I thought I have nothing to loose and to give it a go. It wasn’t until a few years into blogging that I thought, why not start a YouTube channel – and I haven’t looked back one bit!

You have over 700,000 followers on YouTube. Did you ever think you would become so popular?

I honestly didn’t think in a million years that I would have so many amazing subscribers! Even now I feel like It’s all just a dream.

How has YouTube affected or changed your life?

YouTube has changed my life completely. I used to have a ‘full time’ 9 to 5 job in PR and for almost a year now I have been able to do what I love every single day! One of the things I love about YouTube is meeting so many of my subscribers when I’m out and about. I feel like I have a huge family and friend circle because of it.

Where did you learn to apply makeup?

My mum used to work at Avon and she would bring so many things home and I would go into her dressing table, put all this makeup on my face, then wipe it off and put everything back where it was before she noticed. It wasn’t it recently she told me that she knew exactly what I was getting up to (giggles)! In my early teens my cousin, who was trained my Mary Kay, taught me some tips and tricks about makeup – you know, the basics. And since then till now I have simply experimented and taught myself.

What are your top five favorite beauty products?

Oh my gosh, this is such a hard question! I’m going to try and pick things from different categories. I’m obsessed with the GlamGlow Super Mud Clearing mask, NARS Tinted Moisturizer, Bahama Mama bronzer by theBalm cosmetics, Lash Sensational mascara by Maybelline and Urban Decay’s Perversion eyeliner – although the list could go on and on!

What do you think are some of the most common mistakes girls make when it comes to makeup?

I think the one of the common mistakes we can make it picking the right foundation. I get so many questions, emails and messages about this as well. These are the 5 tips I always give:

  1. Always take a sample home!
  2. Make sure you tell the MUA (makeup artist) at the counter your skin type (if you skin is dry, stay clear from drying/matte foundations)
  3. Be happy with the level of coverage! If you don’t like high coverage foundations, then don’t buy it!
  4. Use your sample at home, with the way you like to apply it to see if you can work with it.
  5. Take pictures with and without flash in daylight and night to see how it looks in photographs (stay away from foundations with SPF if you’re going to wear it during flash photography!)
  6. Don’t feel pressured to buy there and then!

What kind of tips would you give to someone who is a beginner when it comes to makeup?

Makeup is all about experimenting! Whether you like natural makeup or full on glam, just go for it!

Can you name some lipsticks that you believe are a must have for every desi girl?

Every desi girl needs a good red in our lives. My personal favorite is MAC’s So Chaud. It is more of an orange red which looks great on our skin tones. If you’re too shy for an orange red, then you can’t go wrong with the classic Ruby Woo which is also by MAC.

What are some makeup trends that we can expect to see you doing in the summer?

It’s all about natural skin. Think lots of highlighter and dewy skin. These trends tend to come by every year but don’t be afraid to wear something different – remember it’s all about experimenting!

If you had to stick to only one brand of makeup, which one would it be and why?

If we are talking drugstore, I would choose either L’Oreal or Maybelline – I have so may favorites of theirs! For high end, it would have to be either NARS or Charlotte Tilbury!

Can you give us some tips on how to avoid the dreaded smearing of eyeliner on the bottom lash line?

Try packing some matte black powder onto your waterline, after you have applied your eyeliner. This will set the eyeliner in place and will avoid it smudging and smearing!

Now that the weather is hot, how does one keep their makeup looking fresh throughout the day?

I think the best thing to do is wear lighter makeup in the summer. I’m all about fresh skin in the summer so I always reach for my NARS tinted moisturizer! Something like MAC’s fix + spray is also fab for the summer – you can get travel size versions which are great for freshening up your makeup on the go!

What are your plans for your YouTube channel? What can we expect to see you doing?

I don’t really have any plans for my YouTube channel as such. I think for me, it’s all always going to be about makeup tutorials which people can do at home and having fun with it (smiles).

Any message for your fans?

I don’t say this enough but I love each and every one of you! If it weren’t for you all, I wouldn’t be here right now. I want to say a massive thank you for that too! You are all such beautiful and amazing people, I wish nothing but happiness and love in their lives – with lots of makeup along the way (smiles).
