Flight attendant Neerja Bhanot is an example of brave choices and heroic actions. The youngest woman to be awarded the Ashoka Chakra died saving innocent passengers during a terrorist hijack on Pan Am Flight 73 in 1986, at the age of 23.
September 7th being her birth anniversary saw many tributes on social media dedicated to her life and the courage she displayed. Commemorations kept pouring in on Facebook and Twitter throughout the day. This unceasing love and respect for Neerja Bhanot further went on to trend on social media platforms. The nation as a whole was inspired by her selfless acts of humanity and celebrated her courage.
Bollywood too joined in this celebration of courage, with Sonam Kapoor, who plays Neerja’s character in an upcoming biopic. She commemorated Neerja by saluting her ‘unflinching spirit’ on Twitter and Instagram, encouraging her followers to do the same. Producers of the biopic, Fox Star Hindi, followed suit and saluted Neerja’s bravery on their social properties.This digital display of thoughts did instill a sense of unity in humanity for all.
