Nikhil Thampi and Payal Singhal Unveiled Diverse Collections At Lakmé Fashion Week!

Nikhil Thampi’s collection called Alchemy at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter-Festive 2015 is definitely one of the biggest hits on the ramp this week! And musician Sarthak Mudgal’s live percussion’s only added a larger vibe to the show.

Nikhil’s collections in the past have been predominantly Red Carpet entries coveted by Bollywood fashion icons and celebs.

This season the designer moved into the bridal genre to satisfy the many brides on his client list. Displaying a crisp line of twenty-four pieces created in luxurious Dupion and pure silk, linen, cotton as well as polyester blends, the designer added his distinctive touches to offer bridal wear innovations. While the embellishments were basic and traditional, so were the colors, which ranged from white, gold to mango, vermilion and nude, it was the construction that was eye-catching.

The collection is filled with various styles combined with a sexy-modern-traditional touch. The saris, anarkalis, kurtas and salwars all had a nouveau image. Blouses disappeared from saris but were replaced by metallics, or draped dupattas that turned into neck ornaments. There are many other details to look forward to in this collection, such as the stitched sari over churidars, with glittering bandage tops. The draped six-yard wonder clasped with a broad belt gave the traditional sari a whole new avatar.

The vermilion section had gowns with drapes and a sexy choli, lungi sari plus dhoti pants with a red cape. The metallic held the choli in strategic places while the white sheath with slit long sleeves metallic full sleeved will power kurta and the final gold choli and nude fish tail lehenga with metallic embellishments proved that bridal wear could be turned into heart stopping creations for the avant garde bride. To match the avant garde look of the collection, exotic footwear and accessories by Aprajita Toor created the perfect mood.

For the bride who wants to be the talk of the town on the most important day of her life, Nikhil Thampi’s Alchemy collection will achieve that desire for her!

Payal Singhal’s Maaya collection was an extravagant presentation at Lakme Fashion Week!

This stunning collection is inspired by the ancient primeval gold jewelry of a lost era. The Maaya collection was an extravagant offering at Lakme. The new line explores the techniques and intricate workmanship along with refined shapes. Payal added her unique creative, contemporary touches to the ensembles.

The motifs seen on the first pieces of gold jewelry excavated from ancient Egypt, Rome and India, were beautifully transformed into zardosi, Mukaish and appliqués. The fabrics chosen for this stunning collection matched the intricate embellishments. Rich silks, tulle and mul were showcased in earthy colors that moved from natural stone, to pretty pale rose, stately grey, elegant cream and finally dramatic black.

Highlights of the show were the embroidered low crotch dhoti pants, stone silk raised hem kurta, silk organza kaftans, tunics, black fish scale Patiala and the navy embroidered Afghani salwar with ornate kurta. Jackets and lehenga were dazzling with gorgeous work while the Banaras palazzos and Mukaish tulle dupatta added to the dazzle. The three sari entries in dual tones had simple embellished cholis.

Showstopper Nimrat Kaur was a vision of elegance as she glided down the ramp in a fully ornate gold lehenga-choli in flaming red silk. From ancient civilizations to modern Red Carpet creations, Payal Singhal’s Maaya collection offered the stylish woman a slice of extravagant fashion!
