With the aim of renewing the textile roots of India, Mayank Anand and Shraddha Nigam presented “The Textile Brigade” for their label. An army of individuals collectively determined to preserve the textile heritage of our country, at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2015.
The label’s ethos of sustainability rooted in its guiding principles of reduce, recycle, reuse, repurpose and recreate, was highlighted beautifully. The thousands of little fabric pieces were painstakingly stitched together to form a new fabric that employed the language of each piece; yet had a distinct character of its own. Physical representation of diversity in unification was the main idea behind the collection.
The silhouettes were a rehabilitation of the signature cuts of the label, which consisted of unrestricted flow that had to be tamed to a more structured drape like tunics, slit kurtas and army pants. The garments were elegant and graceful and had just the right amount of earthiness that added to the allure of the collection. The colour palette embodied homely hues like hunter’s green and walnut brown with undertones of gold that were employed to bring out the mood of nature that weren’t butchered by industrialization.
Embellishments were adorned onto the garments in the form of ropes, badges, tassels and gold plated buttons that added individual allure to each garment. Garments that highlighted the show was a tunic patched with different fabrics in the front and the plain khaki back swerved into a sari drape onto the shoulder and also the multi-panel top that had a high low hem worn over straight pants.
Designers, Mayank Anand and Shraddha Nigam brought fashion and grandeur to the ramp with their collection ‘The Textile Brigade’ that hit all the right fashion notes.
