Gurukulam transcends barriers of modern conformity to give you a state of peace

A tranquil day break in what seems to be an ashram in the remote forest of Tamil Naidu. A man goes about his morning rituals. He, like thousands of others, has surrendered himself to the teachings at Arsha Vidya Gurukul.

Gurukulam came to life when Jillian Elizabeth and Neil Dalel took us into the depths of these forests to explore ancient Vedic ideas of a rhythmic lifestyle taken from the Advaita Vedanta. Headed by Swami Dayanand Saraswati, the Gurukul thrives on the idea of self worth, enlightenment and intimacy with nature.

A major take away from this 68 minute feature is the beauty of simple living. Despite having a secular education, modern thought, knowledge and utility of technology the habitants of the ashram enjoy the tranquil process of self discovery that the ashram provides.

Gurukulam was well received by audiences at a recent screening at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City. To learn more about the documentary check out its official website.
