Marvel’s next biggie of the year after Avengers, Ant-man, sees a most unusual actor helming the superhero avatar, Paul Rudd who reveals that he never thought he would do a Marvel film!
“I don’t have an agenda where I do a comedy and say,I have to do a drama next or I am looking for an action movie now.”
The Marvel world wasn’t anything I thought about seriously because I guess I never imagined I’d get hired!”
The Ant-man actor also spoke about how he had to do serious physical prepping for the role including working with a gymnast and lifting weights.
“I knew I was going to have to do rolls and flips and things like that. I just wanted to be as convincing as possible,”
He has also confirmed his recurring Ant-man role in Captain America: Civil War in 2016 – and Rudd confirmed he’s already shot his scenes as Ant-Man for the production that’s currently filming. He says, “When I went to the set of Civil War, I was 10 years old. There’s Captain America, there’s Iron Man. And not only that, but I’m doing scenes with them, calling them by their names. That feeling of excitement, the surreal nature of it is the best, it was great. I really felt for the first time part of the Marvel Universe.”
In the original Marvel Comics, Ant-Man was the alter ego of scientist Hank Pym. The comic debuted in 1962 and then in 1979, the character of Scott Lang was introduced as a thief who tries to steal the Ant-Man suit but instead joins forces with Pym to become a force for good.
The new movie focuses on Lang with Pym, played by Michael Douglas, as his mentor.
Ant-Man, directed by Peyton Reed, opens on 24th July in India
