Jump for joy! Satnam Singh has been drafted to the NBA!!

The Dallas Mavericks have made one of the most historic drafts in recent times!  They have just signed the first Indian-born basketball player to their team!  Who am I talking about?  None other than the 7 foot two inch tall Satnam Singh!! (Remember, I told all of you lovely readers about him way back in 2010 – see here?)  It was Satnam’s father’s dream to see his son make it into the NBA, and it looks like his dream has finally come into fruition just 5 years later!  Not only has Satnam’s father’s dream become a reality, but now, the Indian community too has another sports hero to look up to!

The NBA has kept their eye on Satnam for many years, and not just because of his height!  Satnam has been training at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla, which is known for its outstanding basketball training.  You can read his profile on the academy page here.  Satnam, who is only 19 years old, is a talented basketball player, who has featured in prestigious sports magazines like ESPN the Magazine and Sports Illustrated.  As he is still so young, he has a long and amazing journey ahead of him to truly hone his skills.  It is an excellent move by the Mavericks to draft him so early on, as based on his skills now, it is possible he will grow into a very strong player!

Last year, The Kings had made history by signing Sim Bhullar.  However, Bhullar is actually a Canadian by birth.  As such, Singh is the first of Indian descent drafted to the NBA!  Here’s wishing Satnam all the best on his basketball journey!  Hoping this Singh quickly becomes King of the Mavericks!
