Google celebrates Bollywood actress Nargis 86th birth anniversary!

Do you ever get the urge to play a super old tune that your grandparents used to hear from back in the day or your parents who listen to that one romantic tune over and over that make you wonder – ‘How come they never make tunes like this anymore?’ Some of us love those old tunes our grandparents used to hear or our parents loved pressing #repeat on or even just singing the song out loud at home. I am sure every Indian Household goes through that. I know I do at home. My father still loves his old tunes and who wouldn’t? Those were the classics and they still are till date. Today, I am sure many people including our parents, grandparents and uncles got a flash back today!

Google has marked late Bollywood actress Nargis Dutt’s 86th birthday with its doodle. Born in Calcutta (Kolkata), the actress, who was married to late Sunil Dutt and had three children with him, including actor Sanjay Dutt, had started her career as a child star in the Indian film industry at the age of six in 1935. She went on to be one of the most renowned actresses in Bollywood and had won awards for acclaimed films ‘Mother India,’ and ‘Raat Aur Din.’

Here are some of my favorites that I still enjoy – even though I might be young my father used to play some of her famous tunes around the house that I can still remember as I was a child. Check out some of her work!

Nargis was also the first film actress to be conferred by the Government of India with the Padma Shri. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and underwent treatment for it in New York. However, her condition deteriorated after she returned to India, following which she went into a coma on 2 May 1981 and died the next day.

Well even though she is gone – we still love her work and her tunes which remind us where the world of Hindi Cinema has come from. Till then enjoy these classics!
