Essential Holiday Hair Tips by Asgar!

It’s getting warmer, and it’s safe to say that it is finally almost time for summer! And while we are looking forward to the warm sunshine, our hair is not looking forward to the annual damage it endures. Hairstylist to the stars Asgar Saboo gives his essential tips to ensure your hair is holiday ready and looking its very best on the beach. So ladies you know that the new thing in style for your hair is ‘Dry Shampoo’ right? Well trust me with summer coming and if you are in a place that is full of humid weather these are some great tips to use!

1)     Use Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo has been gaining popularity recently; I always encourage the use of dry shampoo during summer for individuals more prone to oiliness. As the name suggests, dry shampoo absorbs the oil in your hair and gives it a softness, and more importantly voluminous shape. It becomes effective after a few days of not washing your hair. I strongly recommend my clients to avoid washing their hair every day, as it makes it more prone to oiliness.

2)     Avoid Excessive Shampooing

If you have dry hair, it’s probably because you are washing your hair too often! I constantly encourage people to cut back a little on the frequency of washing their hair. The reason behind this is that excessive shampooing can actually remove the natural oils that are necessary for your hair’s strength. This becomes especially damaging when blow drying. As beach season is upon us, you are not wrong for wanting to wash that sand and chlorine out of your hair, however instead of applying shampoo, I recommend rinsing the hair in the shower with a scalp massage. This revitalises the cells and exfoliates them. With increased circulation, you are promoting hair growth

3)     Avoid Blow Drying

People who suffer from dandruff or a dry scalp usually expose their hair to the strong heat of a blow dryer. I encourage clients to allow their hair to rest without the blasts of strong heat that come out of a blow dryer.  Excessive blow outs cause the scalp to dry out and without the natural moisture that the oils provide, the scalp, which is essentially the skin on your head, becomes flaky, just as skin anywhere else would.

4)     Maintain Your Colour Tone

In rolling with the seasons, change is always good. However, I always stress the importance of maintaining your colour tone during the summer months. The use of colour-depositing conditioners are vital, as they nourish the roots that have been subject to strong chemicals in hair dye. Many women experience dry hair after changing their colour, this is why I also advise limiting the use of heat styling tools that further dry your hair out. For an extreme change in colour, there’s no escape, regular visits to the salon are needed.

5)     Cover It Up

Given that sun rays are more abundant during the sweltering months of summer, you are going to be more exposed naturally. Therefore, time spent outdoors, even if for a short time, has the potential to damage your scalp. You should grab a scarf or hat to protect the scalp as much as possible. This helps retain some moisture and helps in preventing the stimulation of dandruff.
