Bengal opening batsman Ankit Keshri passed away on Monday morning due to cardiac arrest after an injury he sustained during a cricket match a few days ago. The 20-year-old athlete faced an on-field collision while taking a catch in a Cricket Association of Bengal’s Senior one-day knock-out match on April 17. Keshri was taking to the AMRI Hospital, which was the closest but he was later moved to Nightingale Hospital on Sunday and Monday the former Bengal U-19 captain died because of cardiac arrest. Unfortunately a blame game has ensued after the death of Ankit Keshri. AMRI Hospital claims they weren’t ready to transfer Keshri to Nightingale Hospital while East Bengal’s Sadanand Mukherjee claims that they were assured by the hospital that Keshri was stable. Doctor’s claim they did say he was stable but didn’t recommend a discharge just yet as he was still under treatment in the critical care unit.

The family and coaches agreed to move him and claim that they were told Keshri’s test revealed nothing and would be moved to the general ward. Keshri was moved to Nightingale Hospital for better treatment, Nightingale Hospital posted on their medical bulletin that Keshri’s pulse rate was low and he had a brain swelling (edema) that caused the cardiac arrest. Small hemorrhages and increases in brain swelling affected his heartbeat and led to the cardiac arrest according to Nightingale Hospital’s medical bulletin.

We’d like to send our condolences to the friends and family of Ankit Keshri, definitely a soul taken too soon. We hope they find strength, patience and peace in these trying times.
