Bollywood Featured What's Happenin'

Badlapur garners excellent reviews from all!

One of the most anticipated films of the year Badlapur, has hit the theaters, but little did the makers know that even before the release of the film, it will be so well appreciated so much. Both the critics and the industry are raving, about the plot of Badlapur and Varun Dhawan’s transformation from a ‘Student’ to a ‘Hero.’ Sriram Raghavan’s sheer excellence in cinema, has served a masterpiece that will be milestone in the genre of thrillers.

Here’s what the critics have to say:

Times of India -4/5*
“Brisk and absorbing, concluding differently than expected, Badlapur is an inspired film that dangerously attempts to change the landscape of the thriller genre in Bollywood.”

Midday – 4/5 *
‘Badlapur’ is definitely not the stuff for those with a weak appetite or those who like things black or white. Director Sriram Raghavan consistently treads that thin line between the right and wrong in this complex revenge drama, which keeps us riveted but also mighty unsettled.

Aniruddha Guha – 4.5/5 *
Badlapur explore the concept of good vs evil in a unique way and sub words the hero villain template to an extent where the lines begins to blur and that is what makes it such a cracking film

Rediff – 4/5 * Raja Sen
Badlapur is all fury and fog, a revenge saga that plays out with such eyebrow-singeing intensity that I could imagine a gravel-voiced narrator filling us in on dames and dreams and dark, stormy nights.

Filmfare – 4/5
Director Sriram Raghavan can thank his actors for that. Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Varun Dhawan manage exemplary performances.

Aaj Tak – RJ Alok – 4/5 *

Gulf News : 4/5*

Without resorting to melodrama or over-the-top histrionics, Dhawan does an impeccable job of communicating his angst and gut-wrenching grief. It’s unnerving and terribly moving to see him grapple with the sudden tragedy that strikes his life.

Koimoi-3.5/5 *

Badlapur is a brilliant direction from Sriram Raghavan whose film opens like novel and is full of twists. According to me, the film’s best element is Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui who own this film right from start. For the excellent performances by both the leads and a gritty dark tale.

Bollywood Hungama-3.5/5 *

BADLAPUR offers you cinematic excellence with a rider that there’s violence and gore, which may not be everyone’s cup of bitter coffee. You shall be treated to truly unforgettable performances by Nawazuddin and Varun Dhawan. It is a film that will find patrons amidst the multiplex crowd. And yes, it is a film that will continue to live-on in the minds of cinema lovers for a long time to come.

India Today – Rohit Khilnani 3.5/5 *

If you enjoy thrillers then you shouldn’t miss Badlapur, you get the watch the best of Varun and Nawaz.

Bollywood Life – 3.5/5 *
Like any Sriram Raghavan film, Badlapur is technically sound, with flawless camera work and crisp editing. While story might not be an intelligent one, it is witty, cheeky and driven by the feeling of revenge. Varun Dhawan has given an honest performance, and the hard work that he had put for the role is evident onscreen. But it is Nawazuddin Siddiqui who steals the show, with his amazing body language, which is witty and at times cheeky, making you wonder is there anything the actor can’t do.

PinkVilla – 4/ 5 *
BADLAPUR is worth 80 percent of your ticket value- if you are the kind who enjoys watching twisted, psychologically testing entertainment. I would advise definitely give it a chance.

FirstPost – Mihir Fadnavis
Badlapur is the kind of film we need more of, and also the kind of film that you need to see. It’s in theaters now, so if you want to see a change in the quality of Bollywood products, buy a ticket or two.

Varun and Nawaz in Badlapur

Financial Express – 3.5/5

Film Street Journal – 3.5/ 5
But for a well-enacted revenge story with surprises that are comic and cruel, Badlapur gets a 3.5* rating.
